On March 16th, season two of Shadow and Bone will premiere on Netflix. The fans will finally know what happens when General Kirigin (Ben Barnes) catches up with Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li) and Malyen “Mal” Orestev (Archie Renaux). In addition, the audience will see their favorite crows in action. Kaz Brekker (Freddy Carter) and his friends Inej Ghafa (Amita Suman) and Jesper Fahey (Kit Young) will be looking for the ultimate score again. Last but not least, the viewers will find out what happens to Nina Zenik (Danielle Galligan) and Matthias Helvar (Calahan Skogman), everyone’s favorite star crossed lovers in the Grishaverse.
Trailer Analysis
To increase the appetite of the fans, Netflix released the official trailer on February 17th during IGN’s Fan Fest. The trailer already stood by a whopping 1.1 million views less than 48 hours after its publication.
It focuses heavily on Alina gathering her power to face the darkling. The storyline of the season will most likely be centering on the quest to finding the remaining amplifiers.
We also get a glimpse of the new characters, mainly Nikolai Lantsov (Patrick Gibson). The word dashing comes to mind when the audience sees him on board of his ship, ready for action.
We also see Kaz in hand to hand combat and lots of other characters in fighting scenes, most noticeably Matthias in a cage match.
The visual effects in the trailer indicate that season two will be much bigger than season one.
The trailer is brilliantly executed, as it shows enough to introduce the audience to the new characters, and at the same time shows where the characters of season one are, without giving away too much of the storyline.
Outlook on Shadow and Bone Season Two
Fans of the Shadow and Bone books are of course aware which characters will join the ensemble for season two (we will not go into details here, to avoid spoilers). Perhaps the most eagerly awaited is Wylan Hendricks (Jack Wolfe). Wolfe’s casting threw fans of the book into a frenzy, because he is considered the perfect choice, but the audience will have to wait another four weeks to see if he delivers.
