Let’s start with a little context, shall we? Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set after a mix of chaotic events that led to the opening of the Multiverse. Some well-known characters were involved in these events: Wanda, Loki, Spiderman…-you might want to check the Loki, WandaVision and Spiderman: No Way Home before watching Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness-. Strange then must do everything he can to fix this mess and save the universe.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: Synopsis
Doctor Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) casts a forbidden spell that opens the doorway to the multiverse, including alternate versions of himself, whose threat to humanity is too great for the combined forces of Strange, Wong (Benedict Wong), and Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen).
Review
From the beginning of the movie, we are trapped in a story full of action, chaos and confusing events. Some of these events are linked to the first Doctor Strange movie, some of them are completely new and surprising.
I can’t unveil too much without spoilers, but the way the plot keeps twisting and adding, complicating and setting the story is just MIND BLOWING. In the trailer, we could sense Wanda would play a huge part in this cosmic chaos, not in the best way. Believe me, you are SO NOT prepared for what you will witness…
The way the plot evolves and everything is linked is so beautifully done, and the visual effects are just amazing!
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: Characters
There has been a huge conversation on this topic since months before the movie was released. Some of them were truly accurate.
Despite what many fans thought, Doctor Strange proved to be “human” in this movie. We went from seeing him being arrogant, narcissistic and with no emotional skills to being someone who doesn’t only look after himself, but after everyone else, and won’t let pride cloud his judgment. We learn something about his past that might explain some of these attitudes, but the evolution he has in this movie is so heartwarming.
Wanda Maximoff, The Scarlet Witch, delivered a top performance! From the beginning of the movie, she portrayed a broken character who is looking for comfort and a safe place to be. Since the trailer came out, we knew we wouldn’t see nice things. The power she deployed and how she proved how far she could go if she truly wanted something…a mix of scary and astonishing. She definitely completed a redemption arc, but I feel we might still have a long way to go.
Some new characters were introduced, like America Chávez (Xochitl Gomez), but some of their appearances felt like…too little? I am sure I am not the only one who felt the need to have more content of them. If you watched the movie, you’ll probably know what I’m talking about.
My conclusion
Apart from the action, adventure and different universes, I found it interesting how they made us question some very important dilemmas concerning choices and good-wrong statements. It is not just a superheroes movie, but a movie that will leave you thinking and reflecting.
I feel this movie was too short, considering all the things and story lines inside of it; but they did a good job compressing it and showing us different sides of our well known and beloved heroes. I can’t wait to see what Marvel will bring next!
Have you watched the movie? What do you think?
