As we have announced, we will count down to the start of season two of Shadow and Bone with various articles and information. Today we want to introduce you to the new characters, based on the teaser trailers Netflix has released. No spoilers for the books!
Nikolai Lantsov played Patrick Gibson
Just like in the official trailer, we see Nikolai on his ship, and it is save to assume he is the Captain. He appears behind a desk with maps and has an air of authority about him. His swager and speech immediately conjure up images of the swashbuckling heroes of the 1930ies movies. There seems to be more to him, as there is a glimpse of him dressed in elegant clothes.
Patrick Gibson is an Irish actor known for guest appearances in shows like The Tudors and The White Princess. He is perhaps best known for his role in the OA. A fantasy show with an incredibly original plot.
Tamar Kir-Bataar played by Anna Leong Brophy
The next character is Tamar Kir-Bataar, and it becomes evident immediately that she will challenge Inej (Amita Suman) for the role of most kick-ass woman on the show. Although, unlike Inej, she seems to rely more on raw force based on her choice of weapons (two axes).
Anna Leong Brophy is a British comedian and actress who also recorded several audio-books and did voice work for the game Total War: Three Kingdoms. She is also known for guest starring roles in shows Berlin Station and East Enders.
Toyla Yul-Bataar played by Lewis Tan
He is Tamar’s younger brother, and as such she appears teasing him, when he regrets he wasn’t 30 seconds faster. Although the latest teaser offers only a quick glimpse of the siblings, it is obvious that they are not to be trifled with.
If Lewis Tan’s previous credits are an indication, the audience can expect to see him in major action scenes. He played the lead in Mortal Combat and had a supporting role in Deadpool 2, among others. He is also an amateur Muay-Tai boxer.
Wylan Hendriks played by Jack Wolfe
None of the new characters has created a hype like Wylan. Of course, that has to do with the books, but also with the casting of Jack Wolfe, whom the book fans consider perfect for the role. Even Netflix considers him a crucial part of season two, as he got his own teaser trailer.
The trailer shows that he is some sort of chemical expert, who knows how to make phosphor bombs. He also appears to become part of the crows, as we see Kaz (Freddy Carter) giving him instructions. Despite this, he seems somewhat awkward when he tells Kaz not to touch something.
Although Jack Wolfe is somewhat of a newcomer, he has already some impressive credits to his name, like a guest role in The Witcher and the lead role in the recent version of the Magic Flute, where he portrayed Prince Tamino.
