Spotlight – An Interview with Chiara D’Ambrosio

We were given the opportunity to interview Chiara D’Ambrosio about her upcoming heist-thriller “Bandit”, with Josh Duhamel, Mel Gibson and Elisha Cuthbert coming to theaters September 28. She shared a first look of the film with us, and also answered some questions to get to know her.

Bandit Synopsis

After escaping a Michigan prison, a charming career criminal assumes a new identity in Canada and goes on to rob a record 59 banks and jewellery stores while being hunted by a police task force. Based on the story of The Flying Bandit.

Q: You’re playing Mel Gibson’s daughter in the heist-thriller “Bandit”. Could you tell us what it’s all about?

Chiara: “Bandit” is based on the true story of Canadian bank robber Gilbert Galvan Jr, who was able to conduct 63 heists. I play Jill, Mel Gibson’s daughter, who is sassy, and will do anything to protect her family.

Q: What would you say is the moment that defines “Bandit” for you?

Chiara: Oh, that is such a good question! There is one scene that comes to mind towards the beginning of the movie, that sets the stage for the rest of the film. The scene is a major spoiler, so you will have to wait and see.

Q: What music did you listen to while filming the heist-thriller “Bandit”? Do you have a playlist on Spotify to get into character?

Chiara: I definitely remember listening to a lot of Taylor Swift, especially her “Red” album to get me into character.

Q: Since “Bandit” is based on a true story, did you read the book “The Flying Bandit” before going on set?

Chiara: I did not! I wanted to have a fresh mind when portraying Jill, so I decided to avoid reading the book until after filming, so my character choices did not interfere with real life.

Q: If you could play any other character in this film, who would it be?

Chiara: I would say Andrea Hudson, played by Elisha Cuthbert. There are a lot of layers to her character, as you will see in the film, so it would be challenging yet exhilarating to play a character like Andrea.

Q: If you could rob a bank with 3 characters from a show/movie you like, who would you choose to be successful, and why?

Chiara: I would rob a bank with Eleven from Stranger Things, Mike Wheeler from Stranger Things, and Villanelle from Killing Eve. I think Eleven would be the most successful because she can control objects and people with just her mind!

Getting to know Chiara D’Ambrosio

Q: What techniques do you use to create a believable character?

Chiara: I think understanding the characters motivations and choices! For any character work, I like to think about where they are in life, and how they got into the situation they are facing.

Q: What attracted you to begin a career as an actress?

Chiara: I was three years old when my sister and I booked the role of “Young Summer Newman” on The Young and the Restless. I only remember specific moments when we were on set, and the rest of them through photographs. When I was growing up, I would always see my smile through those pictures whenever I was on a set, and I remember thinking, I always want that feeling.

Q: When you have a five-minute break during a day on set, what do you spend that time doing?

Answer: I spend that time either rehearsing my scene, or reading one of my favorite books.

Q: How do you stay mentally and physically healthy as an actress?

Chiara: Exercise is amazing for both the mind and the body. Focusing on self-care is an important and necessary part of being in this industry, whether you are in front or behind the camera. To me, self-care is being with my family, reading, exercising, and working on my writing.
